The Missouri Sentencing Advisory Commission (MOSAC) is an advisory body that works in conjunction with the Office of State Courts Administrator, the Missouri Department of Corrections, the Board of Probation and Parole, Circuit and Associate Judges, Prosecutors, Public Defenders, Defense Attorneys and the public.

The Commission was created in 1994 with the charge of developing a system of advisory sentences, in addition to studying sentencing practices for disparities among the various circuit courts with respect to the length of sentences and use of probation. The Commission also examines to what extent sentencing disparity among economic and social classes exists in relation to the death sentence, and if so, the reasons for it.

The Commission believes that judicial discretion is the cornerstone of sentencing and that in order to have fair and effective sentencing, decision makers must have timely and accurate information about the offenders, the offenses, and the available options for sentencing.
